I liked painting handprints for the Sun. I made Mars and I hung it up. We played with the rocket in Nursery with Izzy. By Ben M.

I like Uranus because of its rings. I liked doing the Sun because I like getting messy.  We hung the planets we made from the ceiling. We did pictures of the Moon landing. By Archie.

I liked making our big sun out of handprints. I got messy with all the paint. My favourite planet is Neptune because it is very cold. I don’t like Pluto because it is too small. By Oliver.

My favourite planet is Jupiter because it is hot.  We painted Jupiter then we hung it from the ceiling. Then we hung up all the other planets too. By Edward.

We have been finding out about space and the solar system. We looked at the Sun and found out it is made of gas. Earth is the only planet with life. By Ben G.

Here is one of the slides from my power point.

Here is one of the slides from my power point.

Over the past few weeks the older ones have  been working on space related power points. It has been fun designing them and finding all the information needed. After a lot of hard work we finally completed them and today we showed them to the younger ones. The younger ones were very impressed. They said, they had learned a lot. A favourite fact, was that Neptune’s core is hotter than the surface of the sun. Ben was  immpressed by the figures,  Archie loved- everything, Edward was wowed  that all the planet slides were in order and Oliver was amazed at the animations.

I was VERY pleased that they all thought positively about our hard work. We showed the Power Points on the Smart Board (they looked fab!) Each of us had to come up in turn to read out and explain about each of our individual Power Points. It was amazing quite how different each power point was.

It was a really fun way of learning about Space and the result was enjoyed by everyone. I hope we can do this sort of thing again sometime.

Over the last couple of weeks James ,Isobel,Katy and me  have been makeing power points about space. They were very different but they all got down good imformation and  wowed  the younger children with the animations and the facts.Archie liked my appearing rockets,Edward was amazed that all the planets came in order and Ben liked the facts and the pictures.I feel quite pleased and proud of my power point and am relieved I have finally finished it at last.

This is a copy of my slide about Uranus – it is my favourite slide.uranus-slide1

Today we have been looking at comet Lulin which you can see from Muck easily. If you look to the south you will be able to see with the naked eye a fuzzy star next to Saturn. Now that fuzzy fuzz ball is a comet, I know it does not look like a comet but it is.The comet is being tracked by NASA with their Satellite all over the world. The comet was first discoverd by ye Quanzhi and Lin Chi-Sheng from the Lulin observatory hence the name in Taiwan. NASA has also found that because it is so close to the Sun that the outer layer is melting and turning it into water. It is producing enough water to fill an Olympic swimming pool every fifteen minutes, NOW THAT IS A LOT ! You will only be able to see  it from Muck until mid March when it will fade from our sight.

Above our heads are millions of galaxie’s, planets, stars and also things that we don’t usually see like comets. From the 24th of February we will be able to see a comet called lulin. You will be able to see it.  Look to the south at around midnight and you will see it. If you don’t know about comets I’ll tell you a bit ; they are bits of ice, rock and dust. Comet Lulin was first discovered two years ago and will be visible until early march and then will fade away from vision. So if you are interested in comet lulin and you are able to stay up late then why not look at lulin. Here is a picture of lulin.Comet lulin

This  term our topic is space and the solar system. We are looking at the planets here are some of their names;Jupiter,Uranus,Saturn and Neptune. My favourite planet is Mercury because it is the closest planet to the sun and is very hot.

Here are some  facts I know: that Earth is the only planet that has life on it, that Jupiter is the biggest planet in the solar system, that Neil Armstrong was the first man on the moon.

I also know that there use to be a planet called Pluto but now it is a dwarf planet, all the planets orbit the Sun, some times  Meteorites crash into Earth and make big holes that you can see and that in space there is no gravity.

Mars is sometimes called the red plane and Saturn has rings around it.

And here are some of things that I want to know; How far the moon is away from earth,How big Jupiter is,How long  Saturn takes to circle the Sun,How  close to the sun you can get,Are planets all the same color,How long would it take to walk from Britain to Pluto. And tons of other things.
